Unveiling of the PyeongChang Olympic Medal Design

SWNA unveiled the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic medals on September 21, 2017, in simultaneous events held in Seoul and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
SWNA aimed to interpret Hangul, the cultural seed, in a more three-dimensional way. When the seed of Hangul is cultivated with authenticity, culture flourishes like a fruit-bearing tree, with the stem symbolizing the process of bearing fruit.
The two-dimensional consonants of Hangul grow into three-dimensional circular forms, and those circles, as they are segmented, become the cultural seeds represented by Hangul. The stem, in turn, symbolizes the process itself.
