The trophy design for the 2022 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) was inspired by MAMA’s heritage elements of satellites and transmission towers. The linear elements of the transmission towers symbolize verticality and upward movement, while the square-cube satellite represents connectivity, embodying the design intent of fostering continuous growth and unity through music between fans and artists.
Recognizing that the previous trophy's weight and shape were not optimized for grip, which could interfere with artists' performances, the current trophy was redesigned with a modular structure to reduce weight. The design process began with paper mock-ups to assess the size, proportions, and stability when held. Additionally, attention was given to detail, ensuring that the MAMA logo is visible even on the bottom of the trophy when it is lifted.
