This was an exploratory project to study the applicability of Google thermostats in the Asian market. The project aimed to understand the technical and cultural differences across South Korea, Japan, and China by researching user environments and HVAC systems. User trends and usage patterns were analyzed to derive regional requirements and service expectations, while expert interviews helped define the optimal user experience direction and service strategy. In South Korea, in-depth research was conducted with key stakeholders, including construction companies, platform providers, and boiler manufacturers, to identify market characteristics and collaboration opportunities.
Based on these insights, a comprehensive strategy and vision were established, culminating in the proposal of the Design Appearance Model. This design later influenced the exterior design of Google's second-generation thermostat.
