The project started with a detailed observation of the space of the old Seoul Station. The forms of architectural elements such as pillars, roofs, and stairs were observed and recorded.
We especially focused on the stairs. Not only did the stairs in various parts of Seoul Station have different uses, but also their shapes were different. The width and height of the staircase were also slightly different, the railings and the silhouettes were different. Cutting cross sections of these various types of stairs led to another form as well.
Finally, we decided to develop two staircase forms and the silhouette of Seoul station as souvenirs. we changed precisely the dimensions and repeated the 3d printing and trimmed the shape. After that, we started working on the metal casting.. Based on the design concept, we made wooden pieces, and we made molds using them. Melted aluminum was poured into the mold to make basic forms.
Various post-processing was done to express various textures and colors. In order to obtain polished look, ‘buffing’ was done . For none-polished, textured surface, sand blast was used. To get the black stained look, powder coating was used.
