Station Geometry for Culture Station Seoul 284
2019 Objects

The old Seoul Station is not only a building with over a century of history but also one of architectural significance. It is a rare example of Western-style architecture in Korea, featuring elements such as a domed ceiling, various forms of columns and staircases, walls, and ornate Renaissance-style decorations. The project began with a meticulous observation of different spaces within the old Seoul Station. I observed and documented the architectural elements, including columns, roofs, and staircases. By enlarging and emphasizing certain parts or reinterpreting the whole into geometric forms, I transformed these elements into abstract objects through sketches. Based on these sketches, I began crafting the objects by hand. I used a variety of materials found in the surroundings, from wood and acrylic to paper and perforated boards, to express different textures. The exhibition was then specifically planned by arranging these objects in various colors within the stairway space of the old Seoul Station, which would be the actual exhibition site.
