The design office SWNA will introduce the results and design process in various fields such as products, furniture, objects, space, and environment designed from 2010 to 2020. In addition, 10 chairs made by designers affiliated with SWNA will be on display. With this exhibition, SWNA shows step-by-step design processes that have been cross-breed and experimented with various design fields, media, and materials, focusing on industrial design. The objects of the past 10 years will serve as a compass that can guess SWNA's attitude and thoughts toward design.
These selected mass products were designed by SWNA from 2010 to 2021. Each object exists within the context. For example,
a coffee cup is on the table, the table is in space and the space is in architecture. On the other hand, a coffee cup is defined by coffee itself, people who drink and the atmosphere in the context and we carefully observe it. Products in this section have been designed reflecting the users and their environment.
There are various ways to bring out an idea. Most of them take an analog format like talking, writing, drawing and making. Among them, 'making' lets us find new inspirations through perceiving three dimensional shapes and understanding the material by hand. It helps to give shape to abstract concepts and let it be developed. Especially 'playful making' is a kind of a stimulant that bring out flexible thinking. Various experiments are important for us to develop creative output and it is a natural routine for us.
SWNA is developing projects by communicating with the clients in the direction created from overlapping the ideas of each designer. Each unique personality comes together the design of SWNA. '10 chairs' are a collection of wooden chairs that express the stories of each designer. By unifying subject and material, the project enables them to compare and understand their thoughts.
